For pure fun, nothing beats making circles with thread on your sewing machine using a thumbtack, tape, and a cork. You can learn to sew circles by playing with Drunkard’s path. We will try 3 of these techniques.
Using real circles in quilting is pretty much an outcome of the modern quilt movement. “Tom Russell circles” is about using the position of the circles to recall flowers and using leaves and beading to highlight them. We will each make a circle wall hanging. Here is a list of the themes you might consider. Think about collecting the fabric you would need to make one.
Circle Themes
Seashore - sand dollar, sea urchin, jellyfish, puffer, horseshoe crab, sting ray, turtle, nautilus, octopus, anemone, sunfish

Sewing machine, thread, bobbin, basic quilting supplies such as scissors, etc.

10” squares of “play” fabric for Drunkard’s path (3)
16 charm squares (5" squares) for background of wall hanging
Fabric that matches the theme for your wall hanging. Also consider fabric to fussy cut.
Models for circles such as plastic bowl covers, plastic plates, etc. I have an Accuquilt with circles, we can all share. If you’ve never used one, this is a chance to experiment!
Beads, buttons, etc. that work for your theme
Sewing machine and normal sewing items.
Also bring your machine (and accessories), scissors, bobbin, seam ripper and all items you usually bring to a class or retreat.
Being proficient in how your sewing machine works is required. You must have sewing experience.
